Oluwagbenga Adeoye
Oluwagbenga Adeoye FCA, HCIB is a finance executive with 27 years of progressive leadership in Nigerian financial services. He currently serves as Chief Financial Officer at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, where he holds executive responsibility for Finance and Procurement, provides strategic financial leadership, and serves as the principal financial adviser to the Board.
His career spans Union Bank of Nigeria, Ecobank Nigeria, Oceanic Bank, and Citizens International Bank, encompassing the full breadth of financial control, regulatory engagement, and enterprise transformation.
Gbenga led Union Bank’s IFRS 9 conversion, building a fully in-house capability that replaced external consultants; he has managed the Bank’s statutory external audits with minimal adjustments consistently since 2013. Across multiple institutions, he has designed and implemented enterprise management information systems that fundamentally improved the speed and quality of financial decision-making.
Earlier in his career, he stepped up to act as Financial Controller at Oceanic Bank — a General Manager-level role — during the CBN’s 2009 intervention, demonstrating the resilience and leadership that has defined his career.
Gbenga operates at the intersection of regulatory strategy, strategic finance, and operational excellence. He has maintained constructive, long-standing relationships with the CBN, NDIC, and FIRS, and has consistently served as the trusted interface between finance functions and Boards, Executive Management, and external stakeholders. His expertise spans financial control and reporting, IFRS compliance, tax planning, revenue assurance, treasury and asset liability management, budget and cost management, and procurement governance.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (HCIB). He holds a B.Sc. in Actuarial Science from the University of Lagos, and has completed executive programmes at IMD Business School (Switzerland), London Business School, and Rome Business School.
